The report is primarily written for the general public and anyone who would like to learn about the key ideas and actions that have been implemented during the project. It shows the joint efforts of eleven project partners from five countries – Slovenia, Croatia, Italy, Romania, and Slovakia. Reading through the report, you will learn that the road to success was based on cooperation of many stakeholders and enthusiastic individuals who forged the path of lynx’ survival in the Alps and the Dinaric Mountains.

The lead partner, the Slovenia Forest Service, published this report in several languages; Slovenian, English, Italian, and Croatian. During the meeting, the organizers Veterinary Faculty of the University of Zagreb and Association Biom, presented the project achievements, how the photo identification is performed and the need for the post project activities. But, the last issue seemed unnecessary because all the participants were already involved in the activities in the previous years and are eager to continue it as a part of their regular wildlife monitoring and management. That also makes us happy because the camera traps network and orphan rescue report strategy will continue to work. What is maybe the most important result of this story is that the network of field associates has grown a lot and all of them are looking forward to the future joint cooperation and projects.

At the following meetings, LCG members suggested different ideas on what we could do in their own neighbourhood related to the lynx. As expected, there were more good ideas than there were funds available. Therefore, we made a review of all the ideas proposed, and at the next meetings members voted for the ones they preferred . We implemented the ideas that received the most votes:

Additional field days for schools (they were carried out by the society Dinaricum in collaboration with the Biotechnical Faculty)

Three teaching information-boards on the lynx for three primary schools – Ob Rinži Primary School, Ivan Prijatel Sodražica Primary School and Dragotin Kette Primary School Ilirska Bistrica

The “Let’s Play with Lynx!” collection of activities for children – PDF with board games that you can easily prepare yourself, as well as ideas for activities in the forest and in the gym. Prepared by the teacher, Anja Kokalj.

Replicas of real skulls of lynx, wolf and bear – To compare the ecology, similarities and differences of these three species of large carnivores. They will be given to schools that are part of the Young Lynx Guardians programme.

Workshop for CŠOD (Outdoor learning centre) staff, sharing materials that can be useful for working with children and young people on rainy days

Participation of active LCG members at the final project conference in Zadar (with transport and accommodation costs covered)

A sound information-board for the Loški Potok Hunting Club’s Natural History Centre – with sound recordings of 20 species of animals that can be found in the forest

Apart from the delivery of replica skulls to schools and the sound information-board to the Loški Potok Hunting Club, the ideas of the LCG members have been implemented. We are glad that we were able to achieve something through the project that the local people have been actively involved in. Thank you to all for their cooperation!

Another extinction was threatening Lynx in Slovenia and Croatia. The main reason was inbreeding. LIFE Lynx project has joined experts, conservationists, researchers, and hunters from five European countries, with a common goal – to save the lynx from another extinction. The movie Together for lynx shows how we did it!

For both movies, you can turn on subtitles is Slovenian, English, Italian, Romanian, Croatian and German language.

Documentary film Together for lynx premiered in September 2023 and has already visited two film festivals, won one audience award, and was screened more than 20 times; at different events in Europe and also in Montana, USA.
